31 March 2008 Getting worse before getting better...

The day after I took the picture in my entry below, I woke up with the right side of my face looking as if it had lost a contest with a fist! Purple all over my lower jaw and extending down under the jaw a bit. I'm not posting that pic, because little children are maybe surfing around with their moms. :-)
Today, however, I'm finally able to open my mouth enough to get solid food inside, and there's no pain. A no-pain day is always a good day!
I made the card for the veterinary who's been trying to find out why Fripon, one of my two cats, has bowel problems and lost a lot of weight suddenly. She's tried a lot of approaches, and it's evident that she won't give up, and really cares about both of us. The mousey has written, "Bonne guérison" (Swift recovery) on the kitty's bandage.

28 March 2008 No More Wisdom!

Hope this picture doesn't scare anyone. When I saw this face in the mirror, it was a shock. The swollen right cheek is due to the extraction of a wisdom tooth yesterday morning. It took two dentists to remove it. I spent yesterday taking Tylenol and periodically putting an ice pack on the cheek. Also, I could barely open my mouth (no smart remarks, please!), so the only thing I managed to eat was soup and yougourt. No, not together.
I still look like this today, still taking Tylenol and ice packing. Okay, Pity Party is over.

This card is my answer to the Inkstainers challenge for this week. The card was to have at least two flowers and something metallic on it.

March 27 2008 If you can't beat Mother Nature...

The first poem was written when I was in high school in Oklahoma, before I knew what winter really was. The second was written after having lived several years in Québec. It won a prize.

Snowfall
The sky shakes her pillowcase
And lets fall frigid feathers.
Swiftly swirling,

They smother the earth

In silent, deceptive softness.

Final Irony

With frozen lips
The sky kisses its hue
Onto the snow.
Beneath the crust
His face is also blue,
Only three feet
From the door.

Did you guess that it's snowing profusely today?

This card was the answer to an Inkstainers challenge to use a technique new to us. I used Brayered Batik, which I found on the Split Coast Stampers website. Here's the address: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ee/index.php/resources/tutorials/brayered_batik/

March 25 2008 Easter???

The scenery was more Christmas than Easter this Sunday, but the longer days provide the evidence that this was Easter and spring, in spite of the 400+cm of snow. It was cold, too, but the sun was out and the air smelled earthy, although there's no bare earth to be seen.
The photo at top right is the house I lived in with my husband and children until the kids moved out and Jean died. Glad I don't have to live behind all that snow!
The photo beneath is the short-cut path from my apartment to the mini-mall street. The banks are higher than they seem. I don't mind the snow, especially now that the sun doesn't go down until almost 7:00p.m.

On to more cheerful subjects! The cards were made to meet weekly challenges on the Inkstainers site.
The purple card with bunny met the multiple fold challenge.

The Japanese lady was for the panel challenge. The "Childhood Dreams" card required participants to go to their most neglected drawer, take three objects and make a card.
The "Forever" card was a "Use a photo on a card" challenge, and I chose a wedding photo of my maternal grandparents.

The Easter card required printed paper, ribbon, and 3 embellishments. The froggies satisfied a masking challenge, and the last card had to have both front and back stamped or otherwise decorated.
